THE REQUIREMENT:
Customer with a high speed (up to 250 bpm) jam jarring line came to PMC looking for a way to invert jars as part of an aerating process to improve their product quality.
They had multiple jar sizes and needed to changeover multiple times a day with minimal downtime.
Floor space was at a premium and adding additional conveyor length was not feasible.
THE SOLUTION:
PMC supplied a feed screw and twist block style inversion and reinversion system through partnership with Morrison-CHS.
PMC built and programmed a control system to operate both machines simultaneously.
PMC constructed a custom safety structure to meet CSA Z432-2023 safety code and provided a PSR evaluation and report.
PMC installed the system onto a portion of the customers’ existing conveyor and provided startup support.
PMC supplied a pair of custom change part carts to organize the feed screws and twist blocks when not in use.
THE RESULTS:
The supplied system changes over rapidly through use of quick-change tool-less mounting features and color-coded identification marks. Numerical position indicators facilitate repeatable guide rail width and feed screw height changes.
The system is electronically integrated to the output of the filler allowing it to adjust speeds automatically without the need for manual intervention. It can also stop the filler in the event that feed screw is manually stopped or automatically stopped by the jam detection feature.
Overall, the inversion/reinversion process was successfully implemented with minimal impact to floor space and labour.
